Habitat for Humanity in Walworth County is looking forward to starting on the Bloomfield build for their future Habitat homeowners, Sarah and her son, Daniel. The build will take place in early spring of this year, with the official start date pending on weather conditions.
In the mean time, Habitat in Walworth County has been collaborating with Wilmot Union High School’s Construction and Design program to build a backyard shed for Sarah and Daniel.
Wilmot Union High School’s Construction and Design program offers students the ability to partake in classes that will further educate them in civil engineering and construction. Wilmot HS offers a Building Construction class, taught by Cole Marshall, as well as, a Civil Engineering & Architecture class taught by Eric Morrow.
Back in summer of 2019 Habitat in Walworth County approached Marshall to investigate the possibility of working together. Their discussion led to the topic of having both the Building Construction class and Civil Engineering & Architecture class design and build the new shed for Sarah and Daniel. A Wilmot junior, Taylor Albrecht, is a part of the Civil Engineering & Architecture class and agreed to the task. Once specs were provided, a design soon developed and is now moving to the spring semester construction phase. Ms. Albrecht has included details in the design of the shed so that the new home and shed will look similar. The shed is set to be completed in late spring of this year when it will then be transported to the Bloomfield home site.
Gary Dunham, President of Habitat in Walworth County says he is excited about the student collaboration, and looks forward to other projects with Wilmot Union High School. Dunham reminds us….“Students are our future, whether that be in volunteering for Habitat, or owning their own construction company.”
As progress on the build continues, Habitat in Walworth County will be looking for numerous volunteers to help with the build.
